Two words: scary good. We mean it, this chocolate is so good it actually scared us when we first tried it a few years ago. We knew we had to have it, and are incredibly proud to offer this superlative product. Be sure to try their many uncommon origins, but also make a point doing a little blind tasting. Put Letterpress’ more common origins up against bars made with the same beans from from other makers, and you just might find a new favorite.
Letterpress is available on special-order basis: lead-time is 10 days maximum following the last day of every month.
Cocoa diehards make exclusive single origin chocolate.
Among wines, beers and coffee you can taste the differences between the grapes, hop and beans. Chocolate often just has one plain taste. This was something LetterPress wanted to change. In Los Angeles there now is a place where beans from one single region are being converted to delicious single origin bars.
You can recognize a LetterPress bar by the huge picture of an old fashioned post stamp on the package. The love for chocolate grew after the passion for antique presses and seals.
High school Sweethearts David en Corey Menkes had been working in an office for years when they decided to start making chocolate themselves in 2014. Together they visit Guatemala, Belize and the Dominican Republic where they buy their beans directly from the farmer. Back home they work alongside each other in every step of the process, except packaging. That is the department David runs without Corey. The Menkes bars are only available in Los Angeles and via The High Five Company.
