Single origin 80% Peruvian dark chocolate, handcrafted with cocoa beans from the Piura Blanco region.

The cacao from Puerta Pulache near Piura, Peru is truly unique. This cacao has been grown in the Sechura desert for at least 1000 years. Cacao is almost never grown in this climate, but narrow river valleys flowing from the Andes provide the right micro climate to grow this distinct cacao variety.

The unique heirloom cultivars grown in this small community allow the cacao to have a very distinct genetic makeup, geographically isolating it from interbreeding with other cacao varieties. Proof of this lies in the very high white seed count, almost 30%, that can result from genetic isolation. Many farmers in the area have moved away from growing cacao in favor of more profitable crops like lime, making these cocoa beans even more rare. After a near 10 year absence from the western market, this cacao is experiencing a resurgence.

Dick Taylor took great care when working with these unique beans. Their goal, in making this bar, was to essentially let the uniqueness of the cacao shine through. They used a very delicate roast profile in hopes of preserving the complex yet soft and subtle flavor profile. They also chose to make this bar at 80% (darker than usual for them) to further allow the distinct character of this cacao to stand out.

The Dick Taylor range

The dark chocolate bars by Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate don’t include any fillers like added cocoa butter, soy lecithin or vanilla, leaving every single-origin cacao the chance to express a distinctive aromatic profile. The cacao percentage in their plain dark chocolate bars never exceeds 75%. With only the addition of organic cane sugar, every bar is a journey of flavors across the world.

Their inclusion bars include stable flavors in their assortment and seasonal releases. Among the stable inclusion bars we find the popular Black Fig with 72% Madagascan cacao and the Fleur De Sal made using their signature Northerner Blend Chocolate. When the winter holiday season comes around, the Orange Bourbon Pecan is among their bestsellers.

  • We have no minimum order for EU customers.
  • Minimum order for non-EU customers is €500,-
  • Ordering goes by case quantity. If there's less stock than the case quantity the system won't allow you to add it to the cart. We can add this for you to your order manually. Just leave a note in the comments or contact us otherwise.

Shipping

We ship by DHL or PostNL. These usually deliver within 24 hours (within Holland and Belgium). For other countries the lead-time is about 2-3 days. After your order is processed and ready to ship you will receive a notification by email, detailing the scheduled delivery date and a Track & Trace code.
