Spotlight on: Marou

From the heart of Vietnam comes chocolate magic that’s truly one of a kind.

Meet MAROU, Faiseurs de Chocolat – founded in 2011 by two adventurous Frenchmen, Vincent Mourou and Samuel Maruta, whose serendipitous meeting on a jungle camping trip sparked an extraordinary chocolate revolution.

Pioneers at Origin: Marou was among the first bean-to-bar operations in Asia and one of the rare few worldwide making chocolate at origin – in Vietnam. Rather than importing beans to craft chocolate elsewhere, they built their factory in Saigon – right where the cacao grows.

This pioneering approach has since inspired a new generation of chocolate makers across Asia and beyond, proving that world-class chocolate doesn’t have to be made in Europe or North America.

What makes Marou extraordinary:

  • True bean-to-bar craftsmanship – They control every single step, from direct sourcing to that final hand-wrapped bar.
  • Transparent direct trade – They know their 500+ farmers by name, conduct weekly farm visits, and pay premium prices directly with zero middlemen. These aren’t just suppliers – they’re partners.
  • Six unique Vietnamese terroirs – From Tien Giang to Dak Lak, each province tells its own flavour story. Different soils, different seasons, different character in every bar.
  • Stunning hand-printed wrappers – Inspired by Vietnamese art and selected by London’s Wallpaper magazine for exceptional design, each wrapper is hand-printed and folded 22 times. These bars are as beautiful as they are delicious.
  • Award-winning excellence – International Chocolate Awards Gold, Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat honours, and features in The New York Times. The world has taken notice.

From their celebrated single origins to innovative flavours like Mekong Kumquat, Ginger & Lime, and the extraordinary Pho Spices bar – Marou celebrates Vietnam in every bite.

This is chocolate with soul, story, and spectacular taste.
