Spotlight on: Taza

Some brands change the course of your business.
For us, that brand was Taza.

Taza was the very first chocolate we ever stocked at The High Five Company — and the chocolate that made our founder Dennis truly fall in love with craft chocolate. One bite of their boldly textured, stone-ground chocolate revealed something unforgettable: chocolate that’s intense, expressive, and deeply connected to its origins.

Founded by Alex Whitmore and Kathleen Fulton in Somerville, Massachusetts, Taza is known for its traditional Mexican stone-grinding methods, creating chocolate with a distinctive, rustic texture and vibrant flavour. Their iconic chocolate discs are a perfect expression of this approach — beautifully simple, satisfying to snap, and designed to be shared, savoured, and even cooked with.

Beyond flavour, Taza’s commitment to direct trade cacao, transparent sourcing, and long-term farmer relationships helped shape how we think about what good chocolate should stand for. Their values — integrity, craft, and respect for the people behind the cacao — continue to inspire everything we do, along with many others in the craft chocolate world.

All these years later, Taza remains a cornerstone of our range and a reminder of why we started: to share exceptional bean-to-bar chocolate with real stories, real people, and real purpose behind every bar (or disc!).
